But there\u2019s more to each competitors Crankworx than meets the eye. Most athletes set-up in Rotorua before the mayhem to fine-tune their training and acclimatize. Rotorua\u2019s training ground is more of a playground with over 160 kms of trails, dappled in lush native forest, BMX, dual slalom and pump tracks plus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyline.co.nz\/en\/rotorua\/things-to-do\/rotorua-mountain-biking\/\">Skyline Rotorua<\/a>, a lift-assisted bike park. It\u2019s the stuff dreams are made of, actually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/43ride.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/01\/crankworx-world-tour-2019-rotorua.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5027\"\/><figcaption>Credit: Fraser Britton \/ Crankworx 2018<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, we caught up with four elite riders,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/barrynobles95\/\">Barry Nobles<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/conor_macfarlane\/\">Conor Macfarlane<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mirandamillermtb\/\">Miranda Miller<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nicholirogatkin\/\">Nicholi Rogatkin<\/a>. Sick riding was had, athletes soaked-up the local colour and good times ensued. He\u2019s a championship level BMXer turned\u00a0Pump Track\u00a0and\u00a0Dual Speed and Style\u00a0athlete at the top of his game. In Episode One of Focus On Rotorua, Barry takes us to the outskirts of the\u00a0Whakarewarewa Forest\u00a0and into the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailforks.com\/skillpark\/dodzy-skills-park\/\">Dodzy Skills Park<\/a>. Built by the talented Empire of Dirt trail crew, Dodzy Skills Park is a memorial to a passionate local mountain biker, James \u201cDodzy\u201d Dodds. The Park is a collection of prestinley shaped volcanic berms and jump lines, perfect for bagging pre-Crankworx laps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/990FsG1osXY\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focus On Rotorua \u2013 Conor Macfarlane<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based in the South Island of New Zealand,\u00a0Conor Macfarlane\u00a0made a name for himself as a high-level cross-country racer. Now he\u2019s a regular on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crankworx.com\/crankworx-world-tour\/\">Crankworx World Tour<\/a>circuit racing Enduro, Downhill and Dual Speed and Style. Admittedly biased, Conor is a huge fan of New Zealand\u2019s trails. Off the beaten path, Conor takes us for a ride just a short drive from Rotorua on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/ca\/feature\/rainbow-mountain\/\">Rainbow Mountain.<\/a>\u00a0The trail and the sweeping views draw us in but it\u2019s the promise of finishing the ride in a collection of natural hot pools that\u2019s pure bucket-list material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q3nCZnQgRbs\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focus On Rotorua \u2013 Miranda Miller<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Decorated Crankworx athlete and Downhill World Champion,\u00a0Miranda Miller\u00a0has been laying her DH and enduro prowess on the line in pursuit of Crankworx podiums since 2005. Boasting such a bad-ass resume, it\u2019s no wonder we had a hard time following Miranda on a single adventure while in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/ca\/adventure\/\">New Zealand<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 let\u2019s hear about them all! A Flat White in hand, we catch up with her to uncover what it takes to become the fastest rider on the planet and her impressions of racing the challenging tracks of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyline.co.nz\/en\/rotorua\/\">Skyline Rotorua<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SpirJYQBoKI\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focus On Rotorua \u2013 Nicholi Rogatkin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Another athlete that found his path into biking through BMX,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tetongravity.com\/video\/bike\/nicholi-rogatkin-just-made-mtb-history-at-redbull-joyride\">Nicholi Rogatkin<\/a>\u00a0took the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crankworx.com\/crankworx-world-tour\/\">Crankworx World Tour<\/a>\u00a0by storm in 2018. Making history with the honours of the elusive\u00a0Triple Crown\u00a0award in\u00a0Crankworx Whistler,\u00a0you\u2019d think that Nicholi would be all work and no play at the start of the season in Crankworx Rotorua. But when he gets a chance to unwind with the other Slopestyle athletes on Stop One, they take to four wheels for some friendly competition and party laps on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyline.co.nz\/en\/rotorua\/things-to-do\/skyline-luge-rotorua\/rotorua-luge-tracks\/\">Skyline\u2019s Luge Track<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oHAT3WBtZZc\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s safe to say that Barry Nobles, Conor Macfarlane, Miranda Miller and Nicholi Rogatkin are all major fans of this little slice of mountain bike heaven.
