The Enduro World Series (EWS) heads to Madeira, Portugal this week for round three, EWS Powered by Freeride Madeira. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the second time the series has visited this tiny island, which lies in the Atlantic Ocean between Portugal and the coast of Africa. After making its debut in 2017, it was never in doubt that the series  would make a return to Madeira, which has become synonymous with some of the most scenic and diverse riding imaginable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This weekend\u2019s race will feature eight stages across two days of racing, with riders tackling the hugely varied trails on both Saturday and Sunday. Stage seven – Boca de Risco – has been designated the\u00a0Queen Stage<\/a>, where extra series points are up for grabs for whoever masters this iconic cliff top stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin Maes leads the men going into Madeira after back to back wins at the first two rounds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And chasing those points hard will be series leader\u00a0Martin Maes<\/a>\u00a0(GT Factory Racing<\/a>). Maes\u2019 season got off to the perfect start with back to back wins at the first two rounds in Rotorua and Derby, including taking both Queens Stage wins and ensuring he scored the maximum number of points available in the process.\u00a0Florian Nicolai<\/a>\u00a0(Canyon Factory Racing<\/a>) trails him by 210 points in second place, with\u00a0Keegan Wright\u00a0<\/a>(Unior Devinci Factory Racing<\/a>) just 40 points behind in third. There are plenty of men able to challenge that top three though – including reigning champion\u00a0Sam Hill<\/a>\u00a0(Chain Reaction Cycles Mavic<\/a>),\u00a0although sadly not\u00a02017 Madeira winner\u00a0Greg Callaghan<\/a>\u00a0(Cube Action Team<\/a>) who is out with a foot injury.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a similar story in the women\u2019s competition, with Isabeau Courdurier<\/a> (Intense Mavic Collective<\/a>) also out front with maximum point from the first two rounds. Noga Korem<\/a> (GT Factory Racing<\/a>) lies  second in the ranking and will go into the race feeling confident – she scored her first EWS podium in Madeira in 2017 when she took third place. Just 30 points behind Korem lies Bex Baraona<\/a> (Ibis Cycles Enduro Race Team<\/a>) in third and just 20 points back is Morgane Charre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antoine Vidal<\/a>\u00a0(Commencal Vallnord Enduro Racing Team<\/a>) leads the U21 Men\u2019s category, whilst\u00a0Fenella Harris<\/a>\u00a0does the same in the U21 Women.\u00a0\u00a0In the Master Men reigning Champion\u00a0Karim Amour<\/a>\u00a0(Miranda Racing Team<\/a>) is out front with a 100 point lead, whilst\u00a0Michelle Gane<\/a>\u00a0of Australia leads the Master Women.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
