Qualification runs for the event were a sign of what was to come. On her first run in qualies, Kiwi freerider Robin Goomes (NZL) threw down a backflip, the first ever by a woman in Crankworx competition. When it came time for finals, she threw down again. And again. Six times, to be exact, landing it each round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCOVID was good for women\u2019s freeride,\u201d<\/em> said CLIF athlete Casey Brown (CAN) in an interview leading into finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/43ride.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/06\/crankworxinnsbruck-2021-speedstyle-goomes.jpg\")

I\u2019m stoked to be a part of it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe field going into today\u2019s competition at Crankworx Innsbruck was the biggest women\u2019s field the event has seen since the category was added in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Goomes\u2019 consistent backflips were not enough to get her onto the podium (she finished in fourth coming out of the bronze-medal match against Harriet Burbidge-Smith (AUS), having made a mistake and missing a trick on the first jump in her run), her performance has signaled a change in the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/43ride.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/06\/crankworxinnsbruck-2021-speedstyle-7.jpg\")

Qualification runs for the event were a sign of what was to come. On her first run in qualies, Kiwi freerider Robin Goomes (NZL) threw down a backflip, the first ever by a woman in Crankworx competition. When it came time for finals, she threw down again. And again. Six times, to be exact, landing it each round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCOVID was good for women\u2019s freeride,\u201d<\/em> said CLIF athlete Casey Brown (CAN) in an interview leading into finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m stoked to be a part of it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The field going into today\u2019s competition at Crankworx Innsbruck was the biggest women\u2019s field the event has seen since the category was added in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Goomes\u2019 consistent backflips were not enough to get her onto the podium (she finished in fourth coming out of the bronze-medal match against Harriet Burbidge-Smith (AUS), having made a mistake and missing a trick on the first jump in her run), her performance has signaled a change in the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can see the tricks are just progressing, so I\u2019m going to have to step up my game and switch things up. I\u2019m looking forward to it getting harder and the progression growing.<\/p>– Jordy Scott<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
She added that she does have a backflip in her bag of tricks and will be working on bringing it to competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott defeated 2019\u2019s Queen of Crankworx, Vaea Verbeeck, in the gold-medal round, a rematch from their battle in the same event at Crankworx Rotorua 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott is now undefeated in Crankworx Speed & Style, having won every event since the women\u2019s category was introduced (Whistler 2019 and Rotorua 2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another athlete on a winning streak is the men\u2019s victor, Tomas Lemoine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Frenchman has won the last three Speed & Style competitions across the Crankworx World Tour (Innsbruck 2021, Innsbruck 2020, Rotorua 2020), and today earns his fourth Innsbruck Speed & Style win in five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lemoine had the advantage after his first gold-medal matchup against Thomas Genon, but their second matchup was neck-and-neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As he was making his way through the course (weaving his way through the straight section), he made a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speed & Style is a unique discipline, with the winning run calculated based on speed, with additional points awarded for style. Lemoine had both today, with his final trick sealing the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of today\u2019s podium finishers will be riding some big momentum heading into tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lemoine and third place finisher Tim Bringer are both on deck to take on the Crankworx Innsbruck Slopestyle. So far at Crankworx Innsbruck 2021 Lemoine has raced in the Dual Slalom, Pump Track (coming in second) and today\u2019s Speed & Style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
