The Crankworx World Tour, born out of Whistler’s 10-day celebration of gravity-mountain biking, will grow to add another international location for summer 2017: Innsbruck, Austria. Innsbruck is the only city in the world to have hosted three Olympic Games and have a history with the kind of competition Crankworx does best: defying gravity. Having staged the famous Air and Style Contest since 1993, several Boulder World Cups, and the UCI road biking World Championships, it is the perfect place to set up the fourth Crankworx World Tour stop. Karin Seiler-Lall, Innsbruck Tourism CEO: No other summer sports event fits so…

Red Bull Joyride is in the books and it was Brett Rheeder, who was able to send the best run in front of a home crowd at Crankworx Whistler in Canada! The 23-year-old was out for redemption after an unlucky contest there last year and was able to seal his first ever victory at Red Bull Joyride. Brett Rheeder The demanding and dusty course pushed every single contestant to the limit on Sunday. Many athletes had difficulties to finish their run. It was Anthony Messere (CAN), who was able to send the first solid run scoring 81.60 putting him into…
Troy Brosnan might be in the only athlete in Whistler this week who can claim his win is from a double hometown advantage—Adelaide Australia and Whistler, B.C. Slamming down the Canadian Open DH presented by iXS in a stunning 2:43.45, three seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, he seemed to take what others were describing as a rough course, rutted by tires hitting the dust in the extreme heat of the last week in Whistler, like it was a walk in the park. Troy Brosnan Troy Brosnan: The course is awesome. I guess some people would say it’s a bit…
WTB is proud to announce the release of their Ci31 Carbon rims, the newest and widest addition to their line of carbon rims with a 31mm internal rim width and further reinforced construction to overcome the increasingly aggressive terrain of trail and enduro riding. Debuted last year, the refined function and elegant appearance of WTB’s Ci24 Carbon rims was the result of more than two years of testing and development on the most unforgiving terrain Team WTB could find. While the 24mm inner rim width of the Ci24 has proven itself as a strong, dependable carbon rim for multiple usages…

American Jill Kintner can finally rest easy knowing her GIANT Dual Slalom win at Crankworx has sealed her victory, she will officially be crowned Queen of Crankworx. Dual Slalom is a gut-busting, and in this case dust-kicker, of a race, which sees riders pitted head-to-head down the tight turns to the finish line, and it is one of the hardest disciplines to master in the skills omnium that is the King or Queen of Crankworx. The King and Queen of Crankworx are the season-long competitions to collect as many points as possible, in as many disciplines, during the three Crankworx…
Day seven of Crankworx Whistler action saw the local hero whip his way to the top and a former pump track dominator regain his mojo. American Mitch Ropelato, who won the Ultimate Pump Track Challenge presented by RockShox in 2011, 2012 and 2013, stole victory from the now two-time Pump Track Challenge World Champion, Adrien Loron, with a finish so tight the pair crashed over one another in the finish coral. Adrien Loron vs Cody Johnson Adrien Loron: This final was sick. It was really fast. I just did a small mistake and that’s enough to lose. I’m pretty excited.…
Since the very beginning of ION’s bike department, protection has played an important role in the brand. In 2017, this category takes another stride forward, with two new models joining the range: the K_Lite R is a further deve-lopment of the K_Lite, which remains in the range. And the K_Pact_Amp is a spin-off of the extremely successful K_Pact – but with a full-zip opening on the sides. K_Lite R – Comfort deluxe The brand new K_Lite R is based on ION’s lightweight and highly reduced K_Lite. Enhanced climate comfort and improved freedom of movement were the focus of attention during…
The 2016 FMB Diamond Series is coming to an end this weekend. The highlight of the season is happening in Whistler. The final Diamond Event of the year Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler will decide who will be taking the title home. Will Nicholi Rogatkin be able to put the icing on the cake of a huge season and win his first World Champion Title? Even with a 498 point cushion ahead of Max Fredriksson from Sweden, the American cannot afford to take it easy. One mistake could see his grasp slip off the trophy. Red Bull TV will…
Bas Van Steenbergen redefined the meaning of the word in the “hot seat” on Wednesday at Crankworx, sweating out 30 full runs in first spot, from the top downhill racers in the world, to win the Fox Air DH. Temperatures are soaring in the mountains, leaving the courses hot, dry, dusty and rutty for the 10-day festival as Whistler plays host to 1200 riders and 130,000 spectators. Bas Van Steenbergen: That was nerve-wracking; it wasn’t the greatest. I would rather have dropped in a little bit earlier next time. I got a fourth in Les Gets in Speed & Style…
Enjoying being back Coming into Whistler there was a lot of questions I was hoping to find the answers to. Having been away for the last three rounds of the EWS, the most important question was, where would my speed lie? Would I be fighting for consistency and mid packresults or would I be able to get back into the mix and start to battle again? Flying over from New Zealand I was able to have the whole Team Leov support with me this time which was great. Traveling on a 13 hour flight from Auckland to Vancouver was the…
This weekend round five of SloEnduro series hosted by experienced Calcit Bike Team. Doubles as National Championships and there is a music festival in the mix. This season SloEnduro, the Slovenian international mountain bike enduro series, unites six events in Slovenia, Italy and Croatia. Each event is unique and so is the Enduro Kamnik this weekend, on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of August. There are many reasons for this. Peter Mlinar It is also the race that will crown this year’s Slovenian Enduro National Champions. Even if this race was not part of SloEnduro “major league” last year since…
Five bike wear lines for men and three for women mark ION’s entry into 2017. For its fifth season in biking ION has widened its range of bike apparel, covering all aspects of mountain biking: from gravity-oriented DH and free-riding to all-mountain/enduro, from trail to those performance-oriented bike disciplines. Besides the familiar Traze series for trail riding, the extremely versatile Scrub series and the “gravity only” Slash series, the 2017 collection high-lights two completely new bike wear lines: Paze for all kinds of marathon/XC training and racing. And the rather progressive Seek, that addresses all free-riders out there looking for…
Richie Rude and Cecile Ravanel have done it again – they win the SRAM Canadian Open Enduro Presented by Specialized. Both Rude (Yeti Fox Shox) and Ravanel (Commencal Vallnord Enduro Team) each staged incredible comebacks after their days got off to a bad start. Cecile suffered mechanicals on both stages one and two, whilst Richie had to contend with a flat tyre on stage two. This put both of them at a disadvantage going into the next stages – with Cecile only just making her stage three start time. Richie Rude Everything hinged on the epic stage five, the famous…
