This round presented a few differences to previous races, such as the bike park environment, which saw the racing moving away from the European alpine terrain, also the racing at high altitude. Coming into this event I was nursing a couple of small injuries, which I had been working to recover since La Thuile and Valliore. More than 300 riders from 16 different nations made their way to the future World Cup track for an exciting race weekend. After Szymon Godziek (POL) and Garrett Robertson (CAN) it was Louis Reboul (FRA) who won the last event wildcard. Last weekend, he surprised everybody with his victory at the FMB World Tour Gold event Swatch Prime Line Munich. Drew Carters, one of the most skilled young DH riders from Scotland, wasn’t even born when the first Megavalanche was raced in l’Alpe d’Huez 20 years ago. So we thought this kid was the perfect match for the all-new generation of Parachute. It was a real thriller of a final at Swatch Prime Line Munich today. Dark thunder clouds loomed over Munich’s Olympic Park as finals were about to begin. Once the crowd had gathered to witness the action, the weather gods were kind and cleared the sky. This weekend the iXS European Downhill Cup returned to Spicak in the Czech Republic for its fifth round. Despite hot and dry temperatures, Noel Niederberger and Zarja Cernilogar took the title and collected important points for the overall rankings. Becoming a dad! Straight after Valloire the last EWS round, I flew back to New Zealand for a couple of weeks. Coming back to minimal winter daylight hours and cooler temperatures took a bit of adjusting to do.
