Hopes, dreams and hard work somehow do not always pay off: Mountainbike Rider Magazine, Bikepark Winterberg and the crew of the iXS Dirt Masters are forced to cancel the festival for 2020.
After the appearance of Covid-19 earlier this year the major event was postponed to September 18-20 in order to guarantee the safety of all spectators and riders. Furthermore a comprehensive hygiene concept was set up. With the focus on safety and the reduction of the risk of infection, the beloved festival was planned as usual, from A to Z. In addition to the careful planning, a software company was consulted to develop an app in order to control the flow of spectators, limit the access to certain areas and track contacts. But according to the current state of knowledge there are still no comprehensive protective measures that would be equally effective but less intrusive.
The cancellation was made due to the current decision of the Federal Government, which prohibits major events until 31 October 2020. We fought, developed a comprehensive hygiene concept and always worked closely and effectively with all authorities. It is a great pity, but we are now facing 2021 in a positive way and will have even more fun when we see each other at next year’s iXS Dirt Masters Festival! We are sure that you will respect and understand the decisions of the government just like we do. Now we have to look ahead – we are already looking forward to seeing you and a bombastic 2021!

The current resolution states that events with more than 1,000 expected visitors must be cancelled in principle. Alternatively, in the case of major sporting events, it could be considered to hold them without spectator participation. But where would be the flair and heart of the iXS Dirt Masters without the crowd?For 2021, there’s a spark of hope: The new date is already set and the organisation, the Bikepark Winterberg and the city of Winterberg are full of energy. From May 13-16 2021, Europe’s most famous Bikepark will once again be the hub of the mountain bike scene.
We are really torn about the decision and thank everyone who appreciates and loves the festival, because it is their energy and enthusiasm that fuels our passion for the event. We are also happy to have the support and understanding of the industry, especially our partners and sponsors. We are now focusing on 2021 and we will do everything in our power to bring together the scene for the ultimate mountain bike experience at the iXS Dirt Masters in Winterberg from 13-16 May 2021.
