Friedrichshafen, Germany – There are many design awards, but only very few innovations in cycling are evaluated by an independent jury of experts. And only with one design award are the honors presented on behalf of the world’s leading trade fair for the bicycle industry. Accordingly, the interest of the market participants in the Eurobike Award is great. Last year, 500 innovations and new products competed for the coveted awards. In order to ensure that there continues to be a fair and competent selection of award winners in view of the ever-increasing number of participants, Eurobike organizer Messe Friedrichshafen is introducing a new jury process this year.

Dirk Heidrich, Eurobike project manager:

As an honor bestowed by the leading trade fair of the industry, the Eurobike Award is one of the most important indicators of innovation and design in the cycling world. This assessment is confirmed by the number of participants, which has been steadily growing for years. At the same time, the selection process of the jury, with over 500 products that are to be tested and evaluated in two days, is reaching its limits.

To provide the jury members with more time to review the truly exciting new products, a pre-selection will precede the actual award decision for the first time this year. An expanded, 12-person international jury of experts will review all submitted products in a digital process. All award participants that are worth a second look in the opinion of the jury will then go into the final round, in which a 6-member jury of experts will test and evaluate the bicycle innovations over the course of two days.

The winners of the awards and Gold awards are then chosen from the group of participants in the final round. Product innovations that set new standards in design, function, and quality, are candidates for the coveted awards. The jury also has a special award up its sleeve in the form of the Green award, which is conferred for innovation that is particularly sustainable. For moderation and organization of the jury deliberations, Messe Friedrichshafen was once again able to recruit the German Designer Club (GDC) as a partner.

Companies can now register their new products for the Eurobike Award online at eurobike-award.de. The website also provides detailed information on the procedure and the conditions for participation. It is also possible for companies that are not exhibitors at Eurobike to participate in the Eurobike Award.

The trade world will find out who the winners of the Eurobike Awards are this year on the first day of Eurobike (August 31 to September 4, 2016), where all winning products will be exhibited at the award special exhibition in Foyer West.
