Saalfelden Leogang in Salzburger Land, Austria, April 18th 2016 – A season full of biking action and adventure awaits all riders in Saalfelden Leogang, thanks to a whole variety of exciting events. 2016 is full of challenges and fun activities in the Austrian Alps. Alpine highlights will satisfy downhill riders as well as summiteers.
Bikepark Leogang will be prepared and ready to welcome its first guests on May 12th, when the Asitzbahn will start taking riders up to the halfway station. From May 26th the summit station will be open and this year there is a new trail, on which riders will flow down the mountainside. The new flow trail “HOT SHOTS – fired by GoPro” is the new trail in Bikepark Leogang for all those, who love the rollercoaster feeling, when riding their bike. Kids though will also have loads of fun on the Riders Playground, and they can also take part in children training sessions, where they can learn everything they need to know about riding the mountains on two wheels. On the first weekend from May 14th to May 16th guests will be able to improve their skills at the “Bikepark & Freeride Camp” and “Ladies Bikepark & Freeride Park”. Riders, who visit Leogang between May 12th and May 15th, can look forward to a 15% discount on lift tickets. Aaron Gwin, UCI DH World Cup
One of the highlights this summer is the Out of Bounds Festival from June 9th to June 12th, where the professionals take center stage. Leogang will host the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup, where the world’s best downhill riders will compete for vital points. Last year it was Aaron Gwin (USA), who secured not only the win but also a spot in the history books after sending his winning run without a chain. Rachel Atherton (GBR) dominated the women’s competition. One day before the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup Finals the slopestyle specialists of the FMB World Tour will compete for the title at “26TRIX” on June 11th. The tricks will be insane and the competition intense once again at this FMB World Tour Gold Event. Last year the young Frenchman Antoine Bizet was able to take the title, ahead of Nicholi Rogatkin (USA). Experienced climbers on two wheels can look forward to the Protective Bike Four Peaks from June 15th to June 18th. Leogang is one of the stage destinations and invites all cyclists to challenge themselves in the spectacular panorama of the Austrian Alps. The 1,000 participants from 40 different countries must overcome 207 kilometers/ 128.6 miles and an altitude difference of 8,140 meters / 26,706 feet in only four days. A different kind of climbing experience is offered at the event Biberg Auffiradlers on July 16th. The considerably shorter distance of 5.5 kilometers/ 3.4 miles up the local mountain Biberg begins at the summer-toboggan run and ends after overcoming an altitude difference of 700 meters / 2,296.6 feet at Berli’s hut.
This year’s Biketember Festival 2016 takes place from September 16th to September 18th. Thousands of spectators will come to Leogang to watch the finals of the iXS European Downhill Cup, the Scott Junior Trophy, the finals of the Specialized-SRAM Enduro Series in Leogang and Saalbach Hinterglemm as well as the XCO C1 race in Saalfelden. The supporting program will also stir up their enthusiasm to start pedaling themselves. Only a few days later the Fan-Weekend will be welcoming bike enthusiasts to enjoy the Bikepark Leogang once again. From September 30th to October 2nd guests will be able to celebrate the end of an action packed season in the bike mecca of Saalfelden Leogang together with the shaper team and a great program.
