Since the very beginning of ION’s bike department, protection has played an important role in the brand. In 2017, this category takes another stride forward, with two new models joining the range: the K_Lite R is a further deve-lopment of the K_Lite, which remains in the range. And the K_Pact_Amp is a spin-off of the extremely successful K_Pact – but with a full-zip opening on the sides.

K_Lite R – Comfort deluxe

The brand new K_Lite R is based on ION’s lightweight and highly reduced K_Lite. Enhanced climate comfort and improved freedom of movement were the focus of attention during R&D in collaboration with Enduro World Champion Richie Rude: by using a very breathable neoprene called Super Perforator Neoprene the new yet still lightweight knee-pads score highly with reduced heat accumulation underneath the sleeve.

As a means of reducing resistance to the pedal movements from the protection pad itself, the K_Lite R is much more flexible: instead of using SAS-TEC foam with a hard cap, the new model carries a pad of HD Memory Foam – a blend of PU and EVA. This results in improved flexibility and meets the requirements of enduro racers looking for lightweight protection that doesn’t affect pedalling. To allow individual fitting at the thigh, the K_Lite R features a single Velcro strap on the upper part as a secure fastening in all situations. The Snug_Loop construction, a neoprene strap inside the pad, holds it in place all around the knee. ION’s 3D-shaped Ionic_Fit takes care of the contours around the knee joint, making for a perfect fit whatever the position of the knee – whether bent or straight.

K_Pact_Amp – Evolution

In all honesty, the job of the brand new K_Pact_Amp could hardly be more difficult: as it has evolved from the test-winning and very popular K_Pact, the expectations it faces are high. However, K_Pact_Amp masters this situation calmly: featuring SAS-TEC padding with EN 1621, Level 2 certification, the absorption capabilities are on a par with its sibling. What’s more, it also boasts a number of additional features. In combination with the similarly new shin extension S_Pad_Amp, the K_Pact_ Amp becomes a superb all-rounder: both can be combined to offer full-guard knee-shin protection for laps in the park or on DH tracks. Equipped with the Quick_E zipper opening on the side, the K_Pact_Amp also performs excellently on extended trail tours. Quick_E allows for easy on & off so you can leave your shoes on when fitting or removing the pads. And that’s extremely helpful after long climbs or when entering extensive transfers.

Everything else is pretty similar to the K_Pact and is all thoroughly tried and tested: Ionic_Fit for a firm grip around the joint. Two Velcro-straps for secure fastening above and below the knee. EVA foam side padding to protect the knee against impact from rocks or the bike frame.
