Sleeper Collective is stoked to officially announce their documentary film THE PILOT about 2022 downhill mountain bike World Cup winner, Amaury Pierron.
I’ve always loved watching athletes’ documentaries and always thought it would be great to do one someday. It was when Sleeper Collective were filming me on the DH World Cups last year that we decided to go for a longer format. It became an important project for me.

Amaury Pierron is one of the fastest downhill racers on the planet, one of the most famous names in the sport and one of its biggest and best-loved characters. His feel-good vibe is infectious and his full-gas style is captivating. You can feel the adrenaline in his veins, sense the fire in his belly and see the passion in his eyes.
THE PILOT takes a deep dive into this fun and affable yet intensely focussed and driven athlete, looking back on his career so far and reflecting in detail on his dramatic 2022 season.
Amaury opens up about his struggles and reveals some of his darkest moments on the journey from success to potentially career-ending injuries and back to the top step. His vulnerability and tangible human weakness make his strength and success all the more impressive and heart-warming.
We also hear the perspective of his teammates – two-time World Champion Myriam Nicole, and World Cup winner Thibaut Dapréla – who offer amazing personal insight. Max Commencal and Thibaut Ruffin also shed light on Pierron’s character and in doing so highlight the unique family feel of the COMMENCAL / MUC-OFF by Riding Addiction team.
Alongside these interviews, the film uses archive footage from Red Bull, behind-the-scenes clips filmed from within the team, and GoPro footage which provides that unique POV perspective of the World’s fastest race runs.
Furthermore, we get to see Amaury’s everyday life: his home, his gym and an awesome segment filmed at the COMMENCAL test track in Pascuet, Catalunya.
It’s no secret that the World’s best downhill racers face almost unimaginable highs and crushing lows, but THE PILOT brings the cliché of this rollercoaster to a personal level. Amaury Pierron is not a machine, he is human. It’s just that he is an extraordinary human.
